Franciabigio
Holy Family
Current measurements:
108cm x 87cm
Date:
1515-20
Charles I acquired this painting from the 4th Earl of Pembroke on 4 January 1638, in exchange for two miniature “limning” portraits of the King and Queen. Its attribution has since been changed from the Florentine Andrea del Sarto to the artist’s colleague Franciabigio. This work contributes to the theme of family and upbringing that is so evident from the room hang.
